Veterinarians are extraordinarily busy people. They work long hours and weekends, responding to emergencies and helping frantic pet parents who are worried about their beloved fur babies. It’s hard to find the time to fit anything else into the schedule, but it’s well worth the effort to make some time for a trade show or two throughout the year.
Veterinary conventions are a goldmine for vets, offering the opportunity for professional development, networking, and talking shop with like-minded individuals.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this year’s trade shows are a little different. Some of them have been canceled outright, while others have moved into the virtual space. Check out the following trade shows for virtual opportunities or keep them in mind for next year’s schedule.
Veterinary Education Today (VET)
This convention has been moved online for 2020. This year, it takes place from September 30 to October 3. The VET trade show is an excellent opportunity to learn from leading clinicians and visionaries in the field, with a focus on small animal medicine. Plus, it boasts over 40 hours of continuing education (CE) opportunities! And thanks to its virtual platform this year, you’ll be able to access its sessions for up to two weeks after the convention concludes, making it even easier to fit into your busy schedule.
Wild West Vet
The 2020 Wild West Vet convention has been re-scheduled for October 6-9, 2021, at The Grand Sierra Resort in Reno, Nevada. In the meantime, the veterinary community can still take advantage of educational opportunities offered through Vet Show Academy, a new online portal that includes free webinars.
Midwest Veterinary Conference (MVC)
The Midwest Veterinary Conference is planned for February 11-14, 2021, at the Greater Columbus Convention Center in Columbus, Ohio. Currently, the event organizers do plan to hold the in-person convention. However, they are closely monitoring COVID-related developments and may decide to move the convention to a virtual platform. Regardless of its finalized format, you can expect an enriching experience. The MVC in 2021 will have over 400 hours of CE, more than 100 speakers, and over 190 exhibitors.
American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) Convention
This year marks the first AVMA Virtual Convention. It’s scheduled for August 20-22. From the comfort of your own home or office, you can choose from over 130 hours of CE, take in keynote addresses delivered by innovative thinkers in the field, and enjoy interactive events like live Q&A sessions. Some of the covered topics will be veterinary technology, cannabis, and practice management. And, as you might expect, at least one of the sessions explores the economic impact of COVID-19 on the veterinary profession.
Fetch dvm360
One of the most engaging series of conferences to look forward to this year is the Fetch dvm360 events. All three of these events have been converted to virtual conferences, including the two originally scheduled to take place in person in Indianapolis and San Diego. The first conference will be on August 26-31, and the conference originally planned for San Diego will take place on December 11-14. Dates for the Indianapolis virtual event have yet to be announced.
